Australia, May 01, 2014 -- Desert Blues Cartel are
proud to announce the launch of 'Ma Cherie', the first single from their
upcoming EP. 'Ma Cherie' is an evocative murder ballad set in the
seaside village of Sandgate, just to the north of Brisbane, Australia.
The release features a guest vocal by international burlesque star, Lola
The Vamp, who sultrily curses her lover to an eternity beneath the
waters of Moreton Bay.
Lola's majestic vocals are sung entirely in French, evoking the femme fatale beauty of a young Brigitte Bardot. The contrasting responses of her duetting partner Robert Davis showcase the grit and gravel that is quickly becoming his trademark. A soaring violin solo by Ellen Stancombe midway through the song, accompanied by the delicate keys of Greg Arnott and the teasing brushwork and percussion of Vincent Bashford all combine to create this modern sublime masterpiece.
Although 'Ma Cherie' resonates as a contemporary (not so) pop song, it also elicits a time pre-rock and roll when acoustic instruments reigned and themes of intimate love and loss were de rigeur. Desert Blues Cartel have quickly established a reputation for overt aural decadence, with a sound steeped in the darkest of blues and gypsy music. Ma Cherie is available for free download at www.desertbluescartel.com. The single will be launched at the first of Cardigan Bar's Town Hall Sessions, at the historic Sandgate Town Hall, May 16 from 6.30, with Lovecraft providing support.
